EtsyMom Team Spring Color Palette Challenge

The Spring Color Palette Challenge is right around the corner.

In the past we've used color palettes based on the Pantone Color Report. This time around we wanted to try something different. This time, you get a chance to decide which colors we'll use for the Spring Color Palette Challenge. A fantastic site and source for color inspiration is www.design-seeds.com - if you've ever seen it, you know that the possibilities are endless. We'd love for you to take a few minutes to find YOUR favorite palette and share it with us. After we collect them all, members will be able to vote to decide the winning palette.

So take a few minutes and head on over to: www.design-seeds.com. You can search by color or theme. Or you might even already have some favorites pinned on Pinterest. Submit the URL (only one per shop, please) in this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1RaKcjNooMXWvj7Aw3GrmspB3nHuEEDNAKdo7oBdW-x8/viewform. You have until Monday, March 25 to submit your favorite. We'll compile the list and then put it to a vote to choose which colors will be used for the challenge.

We're also looking for donations for prizes. This is a great way to get your shop name out there! If you'd like to donate a prize, please fill out our donation form, also by Monday, March 25. We'll get in touch to confirm afterward.

If you have any questions, please let us know!

Featured Etsy Seller - Rowdy Runts

This month’s featured Etsy seller has not just one, but two Etsy shops -- Rowdy Runts (www.etsy.com/shop/rowdyrunts) and Rory La Rue Vintage (www.etsy.com/shop/rorylaruevintage). Be sure to visit both shops after reading all about her. She has some wonderful vintage finds and handmade creations. :)

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Marissa, and I am a single mom to two beautiful little girls. I am the owner/creator/operator of two etsy shops. I love that crafting is taking off! It is my favorite hobby, because my girls can join in.

What do you create/offer in your Etsy shop?

My first shop is RowdyRunts. I have kids' reconstructed clothes, handpainted shoes and custom painted jackets, kid sunglasses, and whatever funky cool kids stuff I decide to work on. My newest shop is RoryLaRue Vintage (named after my oldest daughter) and I carry vintage clothes and hand painted cowboy boots.

How did you get started in your line of business?

I have always created things including vintage, antique collections. Friends, family and strangers have always told me I should really be selling my stuff. When I heard about Etsy, I jumped on it and, slowly, started creating a store.

Describe your creative process.

I don’t have a specific creative process. Sometimes, I create while the kids are finger painting. Other times, I get up late when I am having a restless night and paint. I fit things in whenever I can and whenever the mood strikes me.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find my inspiration from everywhere. I love old photos and old art books. Lately, I am feeling inspired by my desert home and loving old Indian themes and jewelry.

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment?

In my RowdyRunts shop, I love these little black fringe moccasins painted with bright bold patterns. There is a gorgeous, black and cream 1930’s dress in my RoryLaRue shop that I dream of fitting me!

How do you promote your work?

Now that my smallest baby is growing, I am focusing more on growing my shops to fulfill my dream of staying home with my girls. I am still in the learning process of marketing and advertising. I am talking to some local shops about carrying a few of my items, passing cards out like crazy and building a website for my RoryLaRue Vintage.

What is one of the most important lessons you’ve learned since starting your business?

I am learning new lessons literally daily! I am learning a lot about me as an individual, especially that I need a set, written down schedule to stay focused and on track.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting out?

Don’t give up or let naysayers ruin your passion and momentum. Starting and growing a business purely based online takes dedication, but that’s the fun part.

What are your other sites (facebook, twitter, blog, etc.)?

You can find my stores and sites at
