Featured Etsy Seller - Pretty Zombie Girl

For October, the month of halloween, our featured seller is the artist behind Pretty Zombie Girl. Be sure to visit her shop on Etsy to see all her unique handmade oddities.

Tell us a little about yourself
I'm a mother of a 5-year-old daughter named Zoe who loves to create & craft just as much as I do! I'm very into horror movies (especially old zombie flicks) and weird occult or nostalgic things which is why I started my Etsy shop. When I'm not busy with my projects, I co-own and operate a brick & mortar handmade/vintage/art shop in my hometown of New Albany, IN called "The Dandy Lion".

What do you create/offer in your Etsy shop?
I create/offer weird occult trinkets, horror-themed handmade items, and eccentric vintage treasures.

How did you get started in your line of business?
I first got started selling vintage clothing & accessories with my best friend in an online store on eBay called "ThatVintageGreen" back in 2004/2005.

Describe your creative process
Basically, I see cool jewelry/art supplies in stores or online that stand out to me in some way and I think about what I can do with those supplies whether they be pendant settings or blank flasks. From there I take something from my childhood, usually TV shows or movies, and play around with ideas to create an accessory or collectible that I like as well as what I think others will enjoy.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere, but mainly from nostalgic TV, books, & movies. I'm fascinated with the unknown and things that scare me and with the internet being so expansive now there seems to be an endless supply of creative inspiration.

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment?
Probably my zodiac hemp bracelets.

How do you promote your work?
I promote my work locally in my store "The Dandy Lion", but online I have a website & blog (prettyzombiegirl.com) as well as other social media accounts. I try to post on all of them as much as possible without excessively bothering my followers. haha!

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?
The consumer market is so fickle. Sometimes, I make something and I'm like, "YES! This is brilliant! I know everyone will love it!" And that particular item never gains popularity while something else I make that I'm not quite as stoked about will sell like hot cakes. You just never know, but don't let your fave products not selling bring down your creative mood.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?
Don't give up if you don't have as many sales or favorites as other shops. It takes time to build a following and a lot of hard work to keep up an Etsy shop. Keep making, listing, posting, & promoting because eventually you'll get to where you want to be!
