Featured Etsy Seller - Tambourine Jewelry

Our featured Etsy seller for this month is vintage hunter, Mireille, of Tambourine Jewelry. Her shop is full of the most ornate, beautiful and intricate jewelry pieces. You just have to see them to admire them all. They will truly make you feel like you are wearing a little piece of history :)

Tell us a little about yourself
Hi, my name is Mireille. I'm a wife and a lucky stay-at-home mom to two noisy but adorable kids.

What do you create/offer in your Etsy shop?
I sell vintage jewelry mostly from the Philippines. I do focus on antique tamborin necklaces which date back to the time that the Philippines was a Spanish colony. These are ornately handcrafted devotional jewelry and was originally pattered after the rosary but later on the designs became more ornamental.

How did you get started in your line of business?
I used to make costume jewelry mostly for tweens but when I had my second baby, I had lesser time to create but still wanted to be busy so vintage jewelry hunting and curating seemed like a good way to start my new business venture.

Describe your creative process

I deal with a lot of antique items, a lot are at least a hundred years old so if I can maintain or restore as is, I do so. But then, it's also common to see broken tamborin necklaces as the beads are usually divided among family members so if it's broken, I gently upcycle it by adding new stones such as pearls so it can be worn again.

Where do you find your inspiration?
From the past. It's like wearing a piece of history really.

What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment?

The tamborin necklaces and this vintage diamante or rough-cut diamonds in varying levels. It's quite unusual.

How do you promote your work?
My Facebook page and a blog that desperately needs to be updated, ha ha!

What is one of your most important lessons you've learned since starting your business?
Customer service is key. I live in the Philippines and regular shipping takes 2-3 weeks (rarely up to 6 weeks) so what I lack in speedy shipping, I make up with fast response, shipping out the items as soon as I get the order and regularly updating buyers on the whereabouts of their order.

What advice would you give someone just starting out?

Love what you are selling/creating so it doesn't feel like work and give the best possible service.

What are your other sites (facebook, twitter, blog, etc.)?
